About the Book

In Tom the Outback Mailman Kristin has adapted her best-selling biography of Tom Kruse into a delightful picture book for young readers.

Wonderfully brought to life with detailed illustrations by Timothy Ide, the book tells the story of Tom’s journey up the Birdsville track and the characters he meets along the way.

When outback floods cut the Birdsville Track, station residents run out of supplies and the Birdsville Hotel runs out of beer! It takes Tom’s renown ingenuity to outwit the floodwaters and get the mail through.

Through Tom the Outback Mailman the inspirational Birdsville mailman is introduced to a whole new generation of readers. And avid Tom Kruse fans will be able to share the story of this remarkable Australian legend with their children and grandchildren.
